Planning the 4th ServiceWave workshop "From edBPM to U-CEP", Poznan Poland, Oct 2011

During the next months, we will organize and plan in this thread (comments and ideas welcome):

4th Workshop on “From Event-Driven Business Process Management to Ubiquitous Complex Event Processing”

Co-Chairs: Rainer von Ammon (CITT Regensburg), Pedro Bizarro (U Coimbra), Andrea Gaggioli (U Milano), Jaime Gomez Ramirez (UPM Madrid), Septimiu Nechifor (Siemens CT T CEE)

This workshop focuses on the topics of connecting Internet of Services and Things as event sources of a global “smart dust” with the management of business processes and the Future and Emerging Technologies as addressed by the European FET-F 2020 and Beyond Initiative. Such FET challenges are not longer limited to business processes, but focus on new ideas in order to connect processes on the basis of CEP with disciplines of Cell Biology, Epigenetics, Brain Research, Robotics, Emergency Management, SocioGeonomics, Bio- and Quantum Computing – summarized under the concept of U-CEP. This workshop will extend edBPM as actually "commodity" from the perspective of the scientific State of the Art, although there are no real adopters so far and we are far from standards. This workshop wants to extend edBPM as ed(B)PM (means: not all processes must be “business” processes) to U-CEP (means: new application domains, new services from the "Universe").

In continuation with the edBPM workshops at the 1st ServiceWave 2008 in Madrid, the 2nd ServiceWave 2009 in Stockholm, the 3rd in Gent, this 4th workshop continues again the thematical enhancement considering the grand challenges defined by Future Internet Initiative and FET-F. The workshop continues to position U-CEP as an appropriate umbrella for new medium-term Future Internet- and long-term FET-F technologies, products and ideas.

Rainer - looks good. Unfortunately it conflicts with RuleFest this year (rules being one technology for driving business processes through events, of course).

Notification of acceptance

Postby rainer93138 » Thu Jun 30, 2011 9:06 pm

Just arrived from the ServiceWave committee:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
... Thanks again for submitting a workshop proposal to ServiceWave 2011.

We are happy to let you know that your workshop From Event-Driven Business Process Management to Ubiquitous Complex Event Processing has been approved as a full day workshop to be held October, 28 (i.e., after the main conference).

We would thus kindly invite you to prepare a final version of the call for papers, setup a website, and start advertising the workshop.

Especially, please send us by July, 8 a short abstract (1/4 page) as well as the URL of your website, such that we can announce at http://servicewave.eu/2011/ [2] as well as send a joint call to SEWORLD [1].

We would also like to suggest that you stick to the below, proposed submission and notification dates in order to unify and simplify the communication about the workshops:

* Paper submission: September, 2
* Expected publication of workshop CfP: July, 8
* Notification: September, 26
* CRC submission for post-workshop proceedings: December, 15

Like in previous years, we plan to publish post-workshop proceedings in the Springer LNCS series. We are currently awaiting confirmation from the publisher and will let you know as soon as possible [3].

Please let us know if you have any further questions concerning the organization of your workshop.

Looking forward to a successful workshop at ServiceWave 2011.

Best regards,
Andreas & Michel (ServiceWave 2011 WS chairs)

2nd revised tentative agenda

Postby rainer93138 » Wed Sep 14, 2011 8:05 am

After introducing Event-Driven Business Process Management with the first (Madrid) and second (Stockholm) workshop and after the extrapolation of ed(B)PM to Ubiquitous Complex Event Processing as a cross-disciplinary perspective in the third (Ghent), some of us suggested in the last days to concentrate on a special focus this time. Therefore we want to discuss why to manage the events and the processes of a complex enterprise based on KPI's is principally similar to "manage" a human body based on biosensors and biomarkers. We decided to focus on Biology, Brain Research and Human Enhancement Technologies based on U-CEP. We believe that a lot of new markets and future products based on radical new technologies and ideas will come up in these fields within the next years, in the sense of a perspective of "2020 and Beyond". This workshop brings together a transdisciplinary team for that goal.

“Wearable technologies” and “Body Area Networks” will connect us with more events and new event types from the environment or the universe. "Genetic cassettes" and other upcoming technologies as event adapters for living cells will revolutionize medicine, healthcare and human abilities. “Ubiquitous Complex Event Processing” will provide the “intelligence” as processors and (re-) actions on complex event patterns. The "Future Internet" and new telecommunication services as well as Quantum/Bio/Supercomputing and Moore’s Law or the exponential development of the “Accelerating Returns” will provide the computing power and infrastructure we need for these aims. A lot of new patents and products will come up in the next years and decades.

Below please find an advanced proposal of an agenda, which will be changed more or less; you can join or leave a slot where you are listed so far. If you cannot attend "physically", you could contribute as co-author of a paper to be finalized until end of December. Perhaps you can ask some of the VPH-colleagues who are suggested below on the basis of the VPH-FET roadmap document (recently founded VPH website https://www.biomedtown.org/vphinstitute/reception/, become a member) and who are not in this distro because I don't have their email addresses yet.

Suggestions for concrete titles and extended abstracts welcome.
